What is Email Marketing?

Definition 1: Email Marketing is an activity to engage users by sending them electronic mail.

Definition 2: Promoting your business or brand or service via an email where the sender has given permission to send you an email.

Types of Email Marketing:

1.     Legit (Permission Based - Collect emails and building lists)

2.     IL Legit (Spamming - You buy a list and send bulk emails)

1.     Legit or Permission Based Email:

Legit Email Marketing is based on concept of Inbound Marketing under which you can shoot only email those peoples who are shown interest in your product and services. Example: Subscription Form

Types of Legit Email:
ØSingle Opt-in – Without Verification – Good for Quantity

Ø    Double Opt-in – With Verification – Good for Quality

2.  IL Legit or Spam Based:

Here first you buy email database ( www.IndiaMailDatabase.com) and then shoot email without recipient permission. Note: This is not recommended.

Types of Email:

1.     Advertising Email

2.     Promotional Email

3.     Regularly Sent Email

1.  Advertising Email:
ØWhen - When Company launches new product or service?

Ø   Purpose – Awareness about product or services.

Ø   Frequency – Very Low (Once in a Month)

Ø   Example - Introducing One of the Fastest & Cheapest Cloud Hosting on EONWEBS!

2.  Promotional Email:

Ø  When - When Company launches new offer on existing or new product & on services?

Ø   Purpose – Engaging (Retention) the existing customers to keep buying.

Ø   Frequency – Good (Once in a Week)

Ø   Example – 50% off on Samsung Mobile Phones.

3.  Regularly Sent Email:

Ø  When - These e-mails meant to strengthen the relationship between the business and

the customers and encourage loyalty to a product or service.
Ø   Purpose – Trust Building

Ø   Frequency – Very Good (Once in a Day)

Example - EBooks, free course, video training, coupons, contest, newsletter, webinars, demo etc.
How Email Works?

Ø  Local Delivery – Mail send from (Gmail to Gmail) – 1 Spam Filter So Fast Delivery.

Ø  Foreign Delivery - Mail send from (Gmail to Yahoo) – 2 Spam Filter So Slow

       Delivery.

 a@gmail.com sends a mail to  b@gmail.com .

In this scenario both are using same email clients that are gmail.com.

As soon as  a@gmail.com hit a SEND button the email would pass through Gmail spam filter and the spam filter check 2 major things

1.     Authenticity of the Email ID of recipient.

2.     Storage capacity of recipient Inbox.

If both conditions are true email would be delivering to  b@gmail.com otherwise it would be bounce back to sender with an Error Message.

In case of foreign delivery 2 spam filter works and both check same things for self satisfaction.

    a@gmail.com  →  Google Spam Filter  ⟺⟺ Yahoo Spam Filter  →  b@Yahoo.com

Type of Bounce Back or Email Error Message:-

Hard Bounce When the Email ID of the Recipient is wrong.

Soft Bounce When the Inbox of the Recipient is full and cannot receive any further email

Types of Mailers:

Ø  Broadcast – Sent Manually

Ø  Auto responders – Sent automatic on particular time or after particular action. Example – after signup newsletter, we got confirmation mail.

Types of Auto Responder:

ü  Time Based – on particular time / schedule email like Diwali wishes on Diwali.

ü  Clicked Based – if email contains some link and user click on, then it will fire.

ü   Opened Based – When users open the email, then it will fire.

ü   Subscribed Based –When users subscribe Newsletter, then it will fire.

ü   Goal Based – We achieve 10000 subscriptions and say thank you to all.

ü  Data changed – When data changed like password changed and suspicious login.

ü   Auto responders send Based – When any auto responder fired.

Birthday Based – according to DOB

Gmail Limits for Sending Email:

Gmail isn’t designed for sending bulk email. If you are planning to send an email message to a large group of friends using Gmail, do read the following rules to avoid temporary lockdown of your Gmail:

Rule 1: You can send emails to a maximum of 500 recipients per day (More than 25 EMAIL ID should not be Incorrect) through the Gmail website. If you are a Google Apps for Work user, your daily limit is 10000 email recipients per day.

If the limit is exceeded, Gmail account may get temporarily disabled with the error

– “Gmail Lockdown in Section 4.” It is important to note that this limit is around recipients and not messages. Thus you can send 10 emails with 50 recipients each or 1 email can be addressed to a maximum of 500 people.

Rule 2: If you access Gmail via POP or IMAP clients, like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail, you can send an email message to a maximum of 100 people at a time. This also includes email sent through smtp-relay.gmail.com or smtp.gmail.com servers. If you exceed the limit, your account may be disabled for a day with the error – “550 5.4.5 Daily sending quota exceeded.”

Google, as per their program policies, may disable your Gmail account permanently if you don’t check your Gmail email for a period of nine months.

Legal Rules of Sending an Email:

One of the most important concepts in e-mail marketing is that of permission -- a business must receive a customer's authorization before sending out any promotional e-mails.

If a person receives an e-mail from a business that he never requested, chances are that e-mail is considered spam.

CAN-SPAM – Controlling the assault of non solicited pornography and marketing act of 2003.

If you want to outsource your email marketing please ask to them that are you follow the guidelines of CAN-SPAM?
